    Kakheti-is a historical province in Eastern Georgia. Snowy Mountains, beautiful wineyards lay side by side and are organically integrated with the unique Georgian architectural monuments. Travel in Kakheti is fast developing, since it is the most visited region of Georgia. One can choose to stay in a guest house, in a small and comfortable hotel, or a beautiful boutique-style hotel while traveling in this Region. Telavi and Signagi are the most visited towns.  




                                                                      General citiy of region

     Telavi-the city and administrative center of Georgia's eastern province of Kakheti. Its population consists of some 21,800 inhabitants. The city is located on foot-hills of Tsiv-Gombori at 500-800 meters above the sea level. First archaeological findings from Telavi date back to Bronze Age. One of the earliest surviving accounts of Telavi is from the 2nd century AD, by Greek geographer Claudius Ptolemaeus, who mentions the name Teleda.  



     Signaghi-is a town in Georgia's easternmost region of Kakheti and the administrative center of the Sighnaghi District. Sighnaghi's economy is dominated by production of wine and traditional carpets. The town and its environs are also known for their landscapes and historical monuments. The territory of the modern-day town has been settled since the Paleolithic period. Sighnaghi has recently undergone a fundamental reconstruction program and has become an important centre of Georgia's tourist industry.  

                                                                                                                                                                         

                                                       Architectural monuments of the region


    Alaverdi Monastery-Georgian Orthodox monastery located 25 km from Telavi. Parts of the monastery date back to 6th century. The monastery was founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph (Yoseb, Amba) Alaverdeli, who came from Antioch and settled in Alaverdi. The present day cathedral dates to the 11th century. Alaverdi Cathedral is the second tallest religious building in Georgia, after the recently consecrated Tbilisi Sameba Cathedral. It is the focus of the annual religious celebration Alaverdoba.

 

    Gremi-is a 16th-century architectural monument – the royal citadel. Is located east of the Kvareli district.Gremi was the capital of the Kingdom ofKakheti in the 16th and 17th centuries. It functioned as a lively trading town on the Silk Road and royal residence kings of Kakheti transferred their capital to Telavi in the mid-17th century.

                                                                                                                                                                    

    Shuamta-two of the most important and most beautiful architectural monuments of Kakheti are the old end new Shuamta Monasteries. Both of them stand in a forest of deciduous trees which makes them look even more fascinating. The architectural ensemble old Suamta is situated 7km of Telavi. Its consists of a 5th century basilica. The Church was restored by Irakli II. The complex includes also a bell-tower. A. Chavchavadze was buried here.

   Ikalto-it is mostly known for its monastery complex and the Ikalto Academy. It is located 10 km west of the town Telavi in the Kakheti region. The Ikalto monastery was founded by Saint Zenon, one of the 13 Syrian Fathers, in the late 6th century. It was known as one of the most significant cultural-scholastic centres of Georgia. An academy was founded at the monastery during king David the Builder. According to a legend the famous 12th century Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli studied there.


                                                                                                                                                                         

    Tsinandali-is a village in Kakheti, Georgia, noted for the estate and its historic winery which once belonged to the 19th-century aristocratic poet Alexander Chavchavadze. It is situated in the district of Telavi. Alexander Chavchavadze inherited this village. from his father, Prince Garsevan. It was the place where Chavchavadze frequently entertained foreign guests with music, wit, and – most especially – the fine vintages made at his estate winery (marani). Familiar with European ways, Chavchavadze built Georgia’s oldest and largest winery where he combined European and centuries-long Georgian winemaking traditions.

    Wine production in Georgia is very long-standing with a history going back some 7000 years. Its production is also associated with the arrival of Christianity, bought by St. Nino in the fourth century C.E. Georgia produces over 50 wine types and is the home of over 500 grape varieties.

    Shumi wine factory-winery is located in the center of Georgian viticulture and wine – making. The territory of the factory is a former part of the National Park and the Museum belonging to the famous Georgian poet and public leader of XIX century, founder of the first winery in Georgia, Prince Alexandre Chavchavadze. Winery with the capacity of 3 million bottles per year, is equipped with the newest technologies of the industry and is justly regarded to be one of the best in Georgia.

                                                                                                                                                                         

    Telavi wine cellar-just outside the city is where Telavi wine cellar was founded in 1915. For nearly a century, we have blended innovation with a sense of history, keeping faithful to the noble traditions of Kakhetian winemaking, while adapting to modern methods to produce wines that would please the most refined, and discerning global palate.



    Eniseli wine factory-the brandy Eniseli distinguished by its delicate pleasant flavor with a pronounced vanilla note, a mild, velvety taste and a beautiful amber color. This excellent quality of the brandy is determined by the 17-year-old age of Brandy Spirits, which is made from grapes from the region Rkatsiteli Schilda-Eniseli in Kvareli.
                                                                                                                                                                         

                                                                     National parks in region



    The Vashlovani National Park-the Vashlovani protected territories are located in Georgia, eastern part, altitude 150-750m above sea level. It involves the Vashlovani Reserve, the Vashlovani National Park, and natural monuments "Eagle Gorge", "Tikhtitepa Mud Volcanoes" and "Juma Groves". Climate is temperate. There is no other place in Georgia, where such a quick shift of plant types can be observed. A greater part of the territory is covered with forests. The rest of them include valleys, a desert, and gorges. There is a unique virgin forest of junipers. 



    The Lagodekhi National Park-is a national park in the region of Kakheti in eastern Georgia. It is located at 300 to 3,000 m altitude in the Great Caucasus. The park was included in the UNESCO list of natural monuments. The Lagodekhi National Park is the oldest in the Caucasus. Overall growth in the park almost 1500 different plant species. There are also nearly 40 different mammals, 120 birds, 13 reptiles, amphibians and four species of insects in 1300.
